Daniel’s Jae’lon Oglesby rushed for better than 300 yards and Daniel’s Christian Groomes hit a 23-yard field goal with five second remaining to give the Lions a 29-27 victory in the AAA Upper State Finals over the Chapman Panthers. Daniel (14-0) moves on to play Myrtle Beach on Saturday in Columbia for the AAA State Title.

Trailing at the half, South Carolina put on the defensive clamps in the second half as they defeated Florida International, 84-72, at Colonial Life Arena Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Gamecocks improve their record to 2-2 on the young season.

The Clemson University men’s basketball team fell behind by as much as 14 before a late rally came up short in a 62-56 loss to UMass in the championship game of the Charleston Classic at TD Arena. The loss dropped the Tigers to 5-1 overall.

Saturday’s rivalry game between Clemson and South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium will be a battle of top-ten teams. In the latest BCS standing released Sunday, the Tigers moved up to #6 and the Gamecocks moved to #10. This Saturday’s game will kick off at 7pm.Alabama remains #1 in the latest polls, followed by Florida State, Ohio State, Auburn, and Missouri.

Connor Shaw became the winningest starting quarterback in South Carolina history Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium as the Gamecocks knocked off the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, 70-10. Shaw passed for a touchdown and ran for a score in less than a quarter of work as the Gamecocks scored the most points in Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier’s nine seasons as coach.

The Clemson Tigers celebrated Military Appreciation Day on Saturday with a 52-6 win over The Citadel at Memorial Stadium. Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd threw for five touchdowns and 288 yards in the final home game of his career. Two Western AAA Region teams competed in the third round of the state playoffs on Friday.  The Daniel Lions beat the Greer Yellow Jackets, 41-10 to advance to the Upper State Finals where they will play the Chapman Panthers who knocked off the BHP Bears, 17-7.

Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney has been named a semifinalist for the 2013 Maxwell Football Club Collegiate Coach of the Year Award.
